MY HOTEL

NH Barbizon Palace Hotel, Amsterdam

Text Massimo Benvegnù

The location couldn’t be better — opposite Amsterdam’s central train station, a few minutes from Dam Square and all the other tourist attractions in the city centre. This is where the NH Barbizon Palace Hotel welcomes its diverse clientele, a lively mix of businessmen and tourists from all over the world.

The Barbizon Palace is housed in a series of buildings dating as far back as the 17th century, and it makes an unbeatable choice for anyone who doesn’t want to compromise on utmost comfort right in the city centre. The Barbizon’s main point of interest is the chapel of St Olof inside the hotel itself, a religious building that dates back to the 15th century which is now used as a conference room. An underground passageway connects the chapel to the rest of the hotel.

A highlight of the hotel is the prestigious Vermeer restaurant where delicious French dishes are served in a Renaissance atmosphere, surrounded by walls decorated with the blue-and-white porcelain typical of the nearby Delft region. Meanwhile, there are plenty of paintings dating back to the Flemish school in the hotel itself.
